Fefelov Scientific Research Institute of Biology at Irkutsk State University, Irkutsk, Russia INVESTIGATION ON DYNAMICS OF RARE AND COMMON BIRD SPECIES IN ECOTONE ZONES OF THE SELENGA DELTA Ornithological researches in a delta of Selenga River at Lake Baikal were carried out in 1971–2002. Changes in fauna and in population of birds have been observed for the descendant phase of a hydrological cycle, preceding a water minimum at the end of 1970s. The second phase of the cycle, an increasing of water level in 1983–1990, gave severely different results in an ecosystem of the delta, obviously being connected with a spatial growth for contact zones between the wa-ter and the land. In 1980s, a number of nesting ducks had grown by 5 times at the main count plot (12 km2), and for whole the delta it increased by 2–3 times. Further research is necessary to know how reversible this process does, but cyclic nature of it is the most probable. In the same time, a number of indigenous rare species (White–tailed Sea–eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) and others) did not increase. Библиографическое описание: Фефелов, И.В.
