Letter Аннотация: Assume that the authorities of a Swiss mountain canton would have to estimate the frequency of extreme floods over a time scale of decades and centuries without adequate instrumental measurements stretching back over such a long time period. Assume further that a local community, concerned about the state of a polluted lake, is discussing remedial measures and therefore needs to know the history of the lake in the absence of studies of the relevant water quality. In both cases the environmental information stored in the sediments of the lakes could provide solutions to these problems Библиографическое описание: Michael Sturm and Andre F. Letter.
