R. Izmest’eva, S. V. Shimaraeva Scientific Research Institute of Biology at Irkutsk State University, Irkutsk, Russia LONG–TERM CHANGES OF CHLOROPHYLL CONTENT IN THE SOUTHERN BAIKAL DURING DIRECT TEMPERATURE STRATIFICATION The concentration of chlorophyll a was measured in the stationary site in Southern Baikal every 7–10 days with the use of standard spectrum-photometric method. Oscillating character without expressed trend was demonstrated for long–term changes of chlorophyll a concentrations during the period of inverse stratification. During strait temperature stratification easily visible positive trend, caused by water temperature increase, is observed. During 1980s the chlorophyll a content was significantly lower, than during 1990s. Average long–term chlorophyll a content in 0–50 m layer was 1,16±0,18 mg m–3 (during inverse stratification period), 1,02±0,09 mg m–3 (during di-rect stratification), and 0,92±0,06 mg m–3 for entire year.
