LibraryNews26.05.2008 At the end of May a group of students and postgraduates of Irkutsk State University is going to Germany to take part in the international scientific expedition and field studies. This trip organized within the framework of the long-term cooperation of ISU and Christian Albrecht University (Kiel) will help Russian students integrate into the magister curriculum of the German University “Management of Environment”. The work will be carried out on two modules: “Coastal and Marine Ecosystems” and “Freshwater and Wetland Ecosystems”. The first expedition will take place on Island Sylt in the North Sea. It is planned to explore the ecological situation of this territory. Young scientists and their teachers (Profs. Karsten Reise, ecologist studying benthos, and Stefan Garthe, specialist in ornithology and preservation of environment) will work at Wadden Station of Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Studies. In a week the Russian participants will go to Kiel and join the field work to study the course “Limnology and Ecosystems of Wetlands” under the leadership of Profs. Heinz Brendelberger and Klaus Dießen. This event will be the continuation of a number of international schools which started on Lake Baikal last summer. At that time our REC and Center of Ecology of Christian Albrecht University organized the first school “Limnoecology of Lake Baikal”.
