Oksana Mitina, Chief of ISU E-Library, submitted at the weekly seminar a joint project “Studies of Lake Baikal, XIX-early XX Century” elaborated by the Scientific Library of the University (ISU SL) and our REC “Baikal”. It is planned to create a full-text electron collection on the basis of materials of ISU SL rare fund and place it at the web-site lake.baikal.ru. The collection wil consist of books, periodic issues with the results of expeditions, reports and communications, articles on physical, geographical, geological, biological, ichthyological, limnological, and zoological studies of the lake. It will also contain topographic measurements and data on hydrological observations, as well as materials on local history and ethnography, statistical data and information on scientific research on Lake Baikal.
This electron collection will provide all the users a wide access to the material of the ISU SL rare fund and allow the scientists to work not only with materials published in the second half of the previous century and later but also with earlier works. At present, the materials are being transformed into electron version and prepared for publication.
At this seminar Natalya Sirina, a group of ISU Vice Coordinator of REC “Baikal”, who headed students and postgraduates to Germany in early June, shared the impressions of the trip. Young scientists took part in the scientific expedition and field studies of marine and freshwater ecosystems. This internship helped Irkutsk students integrate into the international magister curriculum “Management of Environment” of Christian Albrecht University (Kiel). This event has become the continuation of a number of international schools which were started on Lake Baikal last summer.
