Representatives of Christian Albrecht University (Kiel, Germany) Andreas Ritter, Deputy Chief of the International Center, and Manfred Bölter, Professor, Dr., were on a visit to Irkutsk State University from 13 to 16 February. German colleagues came to Irkutsk to participate in the Conference devoted to preparation and introduction a uniform MA course at ISU and Kiel University with a specialization in “Environmental Management”. Twenty years have passed since Christian Albrecht University and Irkutsk State University established partner relations. This time REC “Baikal” will be responsible for the realization of the joint project as the relationships correspond to the main scientific theme of REC “Baikal”.

The aim of this project is to create new educational environment for Russian and German students: harmonization of master educational programmes of two universities, mobility of students and interrelated systems of training courses. The international programme “Environmental Management” has been active at Christian Albrecht University for several years with the preparation in English, while at ISU there are own master degree programmes, in particular at Geographic Department. The analysis showed that our systems are rather similar, can be integrated and in some aspects even be mutually complementary. The idea is that during the third semester of MA study an exchange of students (Irkutsk-Kiel) will take place, during the last fourth semester students will work in Russia or Germany depending on the topic of the master diploma and scientific supervisor. As a result, after defending their projects young specialists will receive diplomas of both universities.

The following representatives of the Scientific-Educational Center “Baikal” were present at the Conference: Alexander Arguchintsev, Acting Director of REC “Baikal”, Andrew Mantsivoda, Head of Chair of Informational Systems at Institute of Mathematics, Economics and Informatics, Oksana Barkhatova, Vice-Dean of Geographic Department at ISU, Victor Kuzevanov, Director of ISU Botanical Garden, Evgeny Silow, Principal Scientific Researcher of Scientific Research Institute of Biology, Svetlana Malykh, Chairperson of the Council of Young Researchers, and Vasilisa Poplevko, Teacher of Institute of Mathematics, Economics and Informatics. The experience of Geographic Department was as an example at this stage of work. In the future, it is planned to make this programme interdisciplinary, in particular to develop such aspect as mathematical modelling in ecology.
