II International Scientific School for youth “Ecology of Large Water Bodies and Their Basins” was held on September 13-18 with the participation of REC “Baikal”. In 2011, the School was dedicated to the memory of Olga Kozhova, Professor, Honoured Scientist, who was 80 years this year.
On 13 September, the plenary meeting of the School was held in the Department of Biology and Pedology of Irkutsk State University. Besides presentations devoted to the memory of Olga Kozhova, at the meeting the following speakers presented their scientific talks: M. Kuzmin, Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Institute of Geochemistry SB RAS), K. Levi, Dr. of Geol.-Miner. Science (Institute of the Earth Crust SB RAS), M. Shimaraev, Dr. of Geogr. Science (Limnological Institute SB RAS), T. Sitnikova, Dr. of Biol. Science (Limnological Institute SB RAS), O. Rusinek, Dr. of Biol. Science (Baikal Ecological Museum SB RAS), and scientists from Irkutsk State University:  L. Izmestyeva, Drs. of Biol. Science A. Matveev, I. Knizhin, I. Fefelov, and E. Zilov.
On 14-16 September, the participants of the School took part in the seminar “Aquatic Ecosystems under Conditions of Global Changes” held in Bolshiye Koty at the Biological Station belonging to the ISU Scientific-Research Institute. They listened to the lectures delivered by leading specialists and took part in training courses, hiking, and boat trip.

On 17 and 18 September, two Round-Table Discussions were held: “Ecological Monitoring and Regulatory Actions of Influence on the Lake Baikal Ecosystem” and “Anthropogenic Impact on the Lake Baikal Ecosystem”.
