Study of physical and chemical processes of forming natural waters in the Baikal region

Project aim and tasks:

  • Fundamental investigation, methodology preparation of research of physicochemical process of Baikal water composition and property formation.
  • Integrated approach improvement of water source quality study, Baikal water data bank development.
  • Student, post-graduate and competitor participation in water source fundamental investigation .
  • Basic project tasks are formation regularity research and Baikal region water composition and property circulation, surface and underground hydrosphere correlation, long-term observations of Baikal water and surface watercourse basic hydrochemical charactericstics.
  • To fulfill current task it is needed to conduct complex research of basic hydrochemical charactericstics and microelement in key points of Baikal, surface flow of main inflows of the lake, that form its unique hydrochemical aspect, including Angara (the only canal of surface lake flow ).
  • Main requirement of project execution is complex seasonal testing of chosen objects at reference station using certain principles, that provides an opportunity to estimate both ionic flow, taking into account colloidal particles, and firm flow.
  • Main research result is long-term observations of basic hydrochemical charactericstics at reference stations and testing areas of Baikal and surface flow, its analysis to expose seasonal, temporary and spatial changeability. Water system geochemical cycle balance model development, including anthropogenic. hydrochemical characteristics of Baikal region water data bank development.
