On interaction of science and education

– Around the whole world the system of relationship between science and education is organized almost in the following way: they are together – science at universities. In Russia, the situation is quite different. Since Peter and Katherine’s reigns, here historically science and education have existed separately. To tell the truth, that relationship which exists now, is not at the desirable level. There were proposals to build relations according to the western model. I think as it often happens, we wanted to do it in a better way, but it came out as always. Nevertheless, effective transformations are necessary. There are two reasons why science should merge with education: firstly, academic institutions need trained personnel, and secondly, even those students, who do not want to work in science, have to gain good education. That is why the youth should have access to accumulated knowledge and professional experience of scientists from the Academy of Sciences.

On role of REC “Baikal” in merging academic institutions with universities

– In my opinion, Research Educational Center “Baikal” fulfils its mission as a pioneer thus creating the system of interaction and merging scientists and students. This is not only a positive moment in the activity of REC “Baikal” but also a breakthrough at the stage of its formation. There are first results which are quite good. It is complicated to say how the process will go on. However, I hope for the best. Our Institute hires graduates from universities every year. Of course, we would like young specialists to be well-trained. If they collaborate with our Institute while being a student, the problem will be solved. I think this is the main goal of REC “Baikal”.
